OACC is inviting you, our neighbors, to join in creating our 2022 Community Ofrenda! We are participating in the Oakland Museum of California’s Día De Los Muertos celebration and we want to include our friends and family in our collaborative ofrenda build.
OACC’s ofrenda is dedicated to those who have passed during the pandemic and those who had been victimized by anti-Asian hate. Those whose lives and deaths were politicized and propagandized. Those who had violence enacted upon them by a healthcare system, a social system, that saw humans as statistics. We center their personhood and acknowledge who they were in life. Our neighbors, our friends, our family.
To participate, please bring a small framed photo of your loved one and/or commemorative objects. We will also be holding a tissue paper flower making activity during the building time. OACC will provide the ofrenda structure and fresh flowers, we’d love to see you there! Here is some more info on how to build an ofrenda to give you some ideas of what to bring!
This ofrenda will be displayed at the OMCA Día De Los Muertos celebration on October 23, 2022. For more info on that, click here.
