Description: Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, dates back over 550 years and is still practiced in modern-day Japan. Ikebana pays attention to the overall line and form of all plant material used and emphasizes minimalism and asymmetry. No previous knowledge of Ikebana is required.
Additional materials needed?: Students must bring their own:
1) Container – a wide (9-16″”) and shallow (3-4″”) dish or bowl, preferably with a flat bottom (suiban)
2) Garden scissors or pruning shears (hasami)
3) Flower frog (kenzan 2 3⁄4” or bigger) – available to borrow or purchase in class for ~$30
4) Small bucket to take flowers home (optional)
*Class materials are available for an additional $5.00 fee. Flowers are provided.
