This exhibition is a powerful collection of contemporary printed work by SF Poster Syndicate (SFPS) and Ancestral Dreams Collective (ADC) that explore our intertwined struggles and fight for liberation. This is a curated selection of posters and prints that were created in solidarity with those fighting to defend their neighbors and communities, such as unions fighting to organize gig workers, homeless rights groups pushing back against their increased marginalization, grassroots anti-surveillance organizations and immigrant rights defense groups.
The works explore the history of linocut, block printing, and other print techniques, and share themes of immigration/sanctuary, anti-police/surveillance, queer and trans resistance, human rights/anti-genocide/anti-war, proletariat power: workers/housing/education and local issues/land sovereignty. With the analog creation of hand-printed media, SFPS and ADC embrace intentional and slow creation, and assert a shared personhood through the struggles that protect us all.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
San Francisco Poster Syndicate is a collective of volunteer artists who, over the last 12 years, have collaboratively produced over 800 hand-printed political posters. For the past ten years SFPS has created political art in dialogue with organizers of large scale actions and local fights across the Bay Area. Through collaboration, live screen printing, and the distribution of free posters, the group has supported national demands at actions like the Women’s March, the March for our Lives, Rise Up for Climate Jobs & Justice, and the Hands Off! protests. Zooming in, they’ve stood hand-in-hand with local struggles—printing in the streets with HIV activists, at the picket line with unions, at city hall with homeless rights organizations, and in community centers, universities, basements, and backyards—all in solidarity with causes fighting for visibility and recognition. Ancestral Dreams Collective is a collective of queer and trans POC artists exploring linocut prints as personal and political art, stemming from the 2024 Queer Ancestors Project at SOMArts. They create art as a way to connect further with their present selves, ancestors, and community. They believe that queerness is not only an identification of your gender or sexuality, but also in the actions of everyday life that push back against the oppressive systems that we all live under. Their art brings our ancestors’ stories and our futures into reality and radically envisions a different way of being, relating, and loving each other. They aim to produce art that disrupts, awakens, and calls people into the struggle for our collective freedom. The artists in this show include Faustina Ngo, JoJo, Natalie Fong 方巧怡, Nayelli Rosas, Ruby Jay, Maya Salcido White, A.Leddy, Percy Schumacher and Fabio Mendieta.
