Tamaki served on the team that reopened the landmark Supreme Court case of Korematsu v. the United States\, which overturned Fred Korematsu’s conviction.   In 2021\, Tamaki was appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom to serve as the only non-Black American on the California Reparations Task Force.
